In devices for transporting patients, in particular stretchers, with lateral, longitudinally extending hollow-profile bars, on which the supporting material is secured along its longitudinal edges and on which carrying handles are arranged, the carrying handles are designed in such a way that they can be pushed individually into the hollow-profile bars so that they do not get in the way when not in use. When the carrying handles are in the withdrawn state, they currently retain their displaceability however, so that they may inadvertently be pushed into the hollow-profile bars and thus bring about a risk of injury. In order to provide a device for transporting patients, in which this disadvantage is eliminated, and in which the carrying handles cannot be pushed in inadvertently, in other words their working position is secured, it is proposed to provide between each carrying handle and the relevant hollow-profile bar a detachable locking arrangement which is operative when the carrying handle is in the withdrawn position.
