A tool for cutting the envelope of a roll of coins comprises a body on which are mounted a cutting blade 14 for cutting the folded end portions of envelopes of packaged rolls of coins and an element 16 for protecting the blade when it is not being used; the body 12 comprises at least one shoulder 18 supporting the blade 14 and the protective screen 16, the blade 14 projecting beyond one side 20 of the shoulder. The body 12 has a platform portion 22 against which the end of the roll of coins is applied. The platform 22 has a stop surface 26 parallel to the shoulder and to the blade, but closer to the back 24 of the body 12 than is the blade by a distance allowing the cutting of the folded end portion without interfering with the coins in the package. <IMAGE>
