The invention relates to a device for the silent shifting of the gearwheels of at least one starting gear, in particular the reverse gear, in a transmission for motor vehicles with a positive- displacement pump which is driven directly or indirectly by the input shaft and supplies a hydraulic circuit in which there is inserted a throttle valve which is actuated when the starting gear is selected, and the input shaft is braked via the positive-displacement pump. In a manner which is advantageous structurally and in terms of control, the positive-displacement pump additionally operates a hydraulic control device for automatically shifting several transmission stages or for the continuously variable changing of transmission ratios.
