PURPOSE:To prepare 5-fluorouracil, by reacting 5-fluorocytosine with a specific microorganism or cytosine deaminase extracted from the microorganism. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of 5-fluorocytosine having a 5-fluorocytosine concentration of 0.5-1.5wt% and controlled to 8.0pH by the automatic addition of an acid or by the use of a buffer solution, is made to contact with one or more microbial strains belonging to Aerobacter genus, Escherichia genus, Serratia genus, Pseudomonas genus or Eumycetes and capable of producing 5-fluorocytosine deaminase, or with the 5-fluorocytosine deaminase produced by said microorganisms, preferably in an immobilized state by conventional immobilization method. |
