Thermal ion detector for detecting organic compound containing hetero atoms uses selective material(I) which donates ions when it is heated. I is lanthanide elements (atomic number : 57-71), Sc, Y, their oxide; or Cl, S, P or N compound. Chlorinated compound of lanthanide elements, Sc or Y is used to detect the chlorinated organic compounds; Nd is used to detect organic compounds containing nitrogen or chlorine; and NdCl3 is used to detect the organic compounds containing hetero atoms.
