In a surfboard (1), with or without a rig (2) which can be releasably connected to it, a solution is to be provided which enables the user of an item of sports equipment of this type to clearly indicate his immobility to persons ashore or his fellow sailors or surfers and/or to impart a thrust to the surfboard by appropriate auxiliary means, which thrust is greater than that which can be achieved merely by paddling with the hands.
