PURPOSE:To provide a serial printer short in rising distance and capable of high- speed printing, by providing two or more print head moving speeds, and controlling the speeds so that they are changed over from one to another in accordance with the print character position. CONSTITUTION:A one-line memory 1 stores print data for one line (e.g., 136 digits). A transverse feed control unit 2 controls two transverse feed speeds, high and low speeds. In the case of printing in the forward direction in order from the first digit.
