PURPOSE:To record a video signal with high quality at a high frequency band, by providing an image pickup section having plural picture elements arranged in matrix, and a picture element memory storing an image picked-up output as a digital signal so as to integrate said section and the recording section. CONSTITUTION:A discrete output obtained at a solid-state image pickup element 12 having plural picture elements arranged in matrix is inputted to a preamplifier 14, amplified. sampled and held. The signal is gamma-converted at a gamma conversion circuit 82 and given to an A/D converter 16. The quantized noise at a low illuminance component is suppressed relatively with the gamma conversion so as to obtain a uiform quantized noise level from a black to a white level. A signal written in a picture memory 18 with the gamma conversion is read out and given to an inverse gamma-conversion circuit 84 via a D/A converter 20. The signal gamma-converted inversely is reduced to a linear signal and fed to a recording circuit via a process amplifier 22. |
