PURPOSE:To improve the durability against a temperature variation, and to join com pletely an optical fiber and a glass base plate, by executing an sticking to the glass base plate, of the optical fiber, by melting and solidifying a glass powder having a coefficient of a thermal expansion of almost the same degree as that of the glass base plate. CONSTITUTION:The titled method consists of an optical fiber fixing process for fixing an optical fiber which has been buried in a circular arcuate shape, to a quartz glass base plate 2, a grinding stage for bringing a clad 4 part to specular working to flatness of about lambda/10 to an extent that a core 3 of the optical fiber 1 is not exposed, and a coupling stage for executing an optical contact by joining a pair of glass base plates 2, 2 to which the optical fibers 1, 1 have been fixed, and which have been ground, after said grinding stage. In this way, a glass powder 7 consistting of quartz is melted and solidified by projeciting a laser light 11, therefore, a water resisting property to a working liquid which is used in the grinding stage being the post-process becomes high, and also, the glass powder 7 and the glass base plate 2 are of the same quality, therefore, a difference of the thermal expansion is eliminated, and the durability against a temperature variation is improved.
