A single-axle trailer, especially for passenger cars, possesses in the conventional way a frame, a trailing device, a base plate arranged on the frame and extendable ground supports arranged at the rear. For the transport and loading and unloading of pallets loaded with merchandise, it is proposed that the frame be designed as a rearwardly open U in its region located behind the wheel axle and that, in this region, the base plate be divided transversely once or a plurality of times and be removable, and that there be mounted on the frame pivotably about a horizontal transverse axis a lifting gantry which has a loading appliance raisable and lowerable over a short distance. Such a self-loading device is characterised by the smallest possible constructional height and a low outlay in terms of construction for the loading and unloading of pallets.
