<p>Apparatus (10, 12, 14, figure 4, figure 5) which is adapted to copparatus (10, 12, 14, figure 4, figure 5) which is adapted to control for example the lateral position and the circumferential or rotational phase position of controllable cylinders in a printing press for the purpose of controlling the registration of a web. The apparatus (10, 12, 14, figure 4, figure 5) includes a drive mechanism (figure 5) for moving each controlled cylinder axially in either direction as well as a drive mechanism (figure 5) for moving a cylinder to advance or retard the rotational phase position thereof, a sensing means (figure 4) for sensing axial and rotational phase positions, a master control (10) with selector switches (16, 18) for selecting a cylinder to be controlled, directional switches (22, 24, 26, 28) for implementing movement in opposite axial directions as well as opposite rotational phase position directions, and a keyboard (20) for entering the amount of movement that a cylinder is to be changed. The master control (10) also includes a display (30) which displays the amount of movement that is to be implemented. The apparatus (10, 12, 14, figure 4, figure 5), includes a secondary control (12, 14) also having a keypad switches (22', 24', 26', 28') indicating the direction of movement and these switches (22', 24', 26', 28') move the cylinder in the appropriate direction by a predetermined amount for each actuation thereof or at a predetermined rate upon continued actuation thereof. Each of the secondary controls (12, 14) is dedicated to a preselected cylinder which facilitates easy association and control of that cylinder by an operator.</p> |
