PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide array which is formed with a continuous region where a refractive index change and a decrease of intrinsic absorption are induced by condensed irradiation with a pulse laser beam in the inside part of a glass material. SOLUTION: The interior of the glass material 7 contg. metallic particulates, semiconductor particulates, transition metal ions, rare earth ions, anion, etc., having the intrinsic absorption in a wavelength range longer than 360 nm is condensed and irradiated with the pulse laser beam 5 adjusted in its focal point 6. The change region where the refractive index change and the decrease of the intrinsic absorption of the wavelength region longer than 360 nm are induced is thereby continuously formed in the glass material 7. The change region has the greatly different optical characteristics between the non-condensed and irradiated part and the non-changed region and is, therefore, used as an optical waveguide. |
