PURPOSE:To obtain a colored picture of excellent quality, by conducting intermittent dot recording of each line and/or each column of a recording dot matrix in the forward passage of the main scanning and by conducting intermittent recording of the remainder of the matrix in the backward passage of the scanning in a dot matrix printer. CONSTITUTION:A multiple recording head being supplied with three complement picture signals Y, M and C and having 128 recording elements arranged in lines conducts intermittent recording of white or black dots in the first reciprocating scan for each page under the control of a control device which conducts sequential transfer from a page memory to a buffer memory in every step advance at an interval of one line and also sequential shifting. Next, in the backward passage, recording of the remaining lines is made intermittently. Subsequently, in the second reciprocating scan, the same dot recording is performed with the scanning line slided by one from that in the first reciprocating scan. These intermittent scans may be performed so that they form a checkered pattern. By this close mixed presence of dual overlapping dot records, the shift of the tone of color is made inconspicuous, and thus a colored picture of excellent quality can be obtained. |
