PURPOSE:To make a life longer, electric power consumption lower, and a display grade higher in the stage of coloring and discoloring an electrochromic display using a compd. resembling to styryl by repeating the state applied with voltage and the state applied with no voltage alternately. CONSTITUTION:For example, the state applied with 1.3V display voltage for a t1 time and the state applied with no display voltage for a t2 time are set alternately repeatedly for a display electrode 2 with respect to a counter electrode 3 in the stage of coloring an electrochromic display ECD. The state applied with -1.3V discoloring voltage for the t1 time and the state applied with no discoloring voltage for the t2 time are set alternately repeatedly for the electrode 3 in the stage of discoloring the display. Here, if the repetitive period is set at >=0.1sec when the state applied with no voltage is <=60sec, an improvement in the life is recognized, and if the applied time for the voltage is set at >=0.05sec, the display grade is improved. The longer life, less electric power consumption and better display grade are thus obtained. |
