An image processing device and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to recognize characters even if the size of the printed character is small, and enable the user to adjust printed character images finely by enabling the user to select a process for trapping the character image. An image processor(120) processes printing data into image data to be printed. A controller(130) enables the image processor to emphasize an edge of character images when the size of the character in the printing data is bigger than a predetermined font size. A font checker(110) checks a font type/size of the character included in the printing data. The controller enables the image processor to emphasize the edge of the character image when the size of the checked character is bigger than the predetermined minimum font size corresponding to the font type of the checked character.
