PURPOSE:To suppress an increase of torque change or the like, by providing an intake air introducing passage to the side of an idle side cylinder and supplying intake air to supplement a decreased amount of pressure in the idle side cylinder in accordance with continuous partial cylinder operation. CONSTITUTION:An intake air introducing passage 19 extended through the side of an idle side cylinder 1 and opened to the inside of the cylinder 1 in the vicinity of the bottom dead center of a piston 20 of the cylinder is provided. Its opening 21 is opened and closed by reciprocating motion of the piston 20 and formed such that the opening is opened only at the bottom dead center of the piston while its closed condition is maintained at the top dead center. When the piston 20 of the cylider 1 reaches the bottom dead center, if pressure in the cylinder 1 is lower than the atmospheric pressure, a valve device 24 is opened to introduce clean fresh air into the cylinder 1 through the passage 19. As a result, pressure is balanced with the other operative side cylinder, and torque change and speed change can be fully reduced. |
