The optical fibre connector contains two male parts, each of which is mounted at the end of an optical fibre and a female joint. The female joint has an internal stjp, e.g. a sphere, with a central hole. Each male part is ended by a small cylindrical tip in which the optical fibre is positioned then fixed. This tip projects beyond a recess in the male part which is designed to engage with the surface of the stop inside the female joint while the tip enters the central hole of this stop. The connector only uses longitudinal forces to align and position the optical fibre ends and is thus simpler and more reliable. In one variant, it is also used as an attenuator.
|
