<p>Magnesium hydride reagent soluble in certain organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran is prepared by reacting under anhydrous conditions a mixture consisting of 1) magnesium metal and an equimolar or greater amount of magnesium halide. 2) a catalyst mixture consisting of a) a transition metal halide, b) a condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, and c) an organometallic compound, organometallic halide compound or metal hydride compound or mixtures of these; 2) in an ethereal solvent 4) while under a dry atmosphere comprising hydrogen, or hydrogen in an inert gas.</p> |
