PURPOSE:To eliminate the trouble that arises with charging of material by inclining the material charging path in the transverse direction in a furnace to a downward grade toward the wall of the furnace tail side, forming the same angle of inclination thereof on a roll as well and charging the material. CONSTITUTION:With a side charging type walking furnace, a charging hearth 6 is inclined from the end part of a stationary hearth 8 toward a front wall 2 so as to be lower linearly from the level L of the hearth 8. Then, the material M charged through a charging port 3 is introduced in the inclining direction of the hearth 6, that is, to the front wall 2 side by the component of force generated by the frictional force of the own weight of said material. A taper roll 4 having roughly the same angle of inclination as the angle of inclination of the hearth 6 is juxtaposed on the roll table on the outside of the furnace near the port 3 in the same inclining angle as the inclining angle of the hearth 6, and guide plate 10 of a rugged shape is disposed on the front wall 2. |
