<p>An input/output multiplexer, Figure 5, couples one or more central subsystems with a plurality of peripheral subsystems. Information from the central subsystems passes through corresponding control interfaces 10a to data registers 0 and 1 and steering registers 212, 213. Index number signals from the selected steering register 212, 213 pass to an index apparatus 222 which replaces the index number with a preselected peripheral subsystem identification number. Data signals from data register 0 or 1 pass via a further data register 217 to a formatting switch 218, which converts their format from a central subsystem format to a peripheral subsystem format. Control signals from the selected steering register 212, 213 pass via a further steering register 220 to a control unit 221, which controls the formatting switch 218 to select the particular format conversion.</p> |
