The invention relates to a magnetic probe which has an annular core of permeable material and at least one exciter winding wound thereon. This winding is coupled to two directional windings which are mounted on the same core and are arranged at 90 DEG with respect to one another and which, when excited, emit signals which represent a measure of the angle between the probe alignment and the direction of the extent of the magnetic field. Excitation is effected with the aid of a triangular waveform voltage, the amplitude of which is controlled in such a manner that the peak value of the probe current is kept constant. <IMAGE>
