The apparatus relates to the formation of wire bundles and scrap bundles from overlapped wire turns of a rolled extrusion which are supplied by a feed conveyor. The wire turns are collected on separate collecting mandrels to form wire bundles and bundles of scrap ends. The apparatus is to be improved in terms of the work cycle, to the effect that, even at a very high hourly production rate, two half wire bundles and, on a further collecting mandrel (21), the scrap ends are collected separated from one another from each rolled extrusion in each string. For this, there is a carriage (17) movable transversely relative to the collecting station (S) and having three collecting mandrels (19, 20, 21) which are arranged at the same distance from one another and which are movable alternately under the collecting station (S), and movable parallel to the longitudinal side of the carriage (17) symmetrically relative to the collecting station (S) and at double the distance between the mandrels are two extractor devices (27, 27a) which engage independently of one another into the region of the collecting mandrels and under the wire bundle (B). <IMAGE>
