In a small electrical apparatus for heat treatment of food, such as an automatic waffle cooker (10), grill, toaster or the like, a light-emitting diode chain (20.1 to 20.7) is provided at an easily visible point, for example in the hinge part (18) and indicates the time which has elapsed in the heat treatment cycle. It is preferably arranged directly adjacent to the adjusting device (19.1) of a bimetallic temperature switch (19). The circuit contains an electronic power circuit breaker (29) which switches on the bimetallic temperature switch (19) in the heating circuit or itself supplies the heater with voltage. It is driven by a programme controller (28) which evaluates switching pulses of the bimetallic temperature switch and sets the light-emitting diode chain and another indicating light (20.0) in operation. An improved and more versatile design of the heating curves can be achieved matched to the control variables which are determined by the recipe and apparatus, in order to improve the baking result using the programme controller. <IMAGE>
