PURPOSE:To improve yield by insulating the entire inside circumference of a casting mold and the head part of the molten steel charged into said mold with heat insulating materials and maintaining the temp. of a molding board at a prescribed temp. or below, thereby gathering segregation only to one side on the top surface and forming a sound steel ingot. CONSTITUTION:Heat insulating materials 3 are mounted over the entire inside circumferential surface of a casting mold 2 placed on a small molding board 5. Molten steel 4 is charged into the mold 2, and a heat insulating material 1 is put on the top surface thereof, then the molten steel is allowed to stand still. The temp. of the board 5 is kept at <=600 deg.C to gather segregation only to one side on the top suface and to solidfy the steel ingot unidirectionally. Thus, the sound ingot is obtained and the yield thereof is improved. |
