BIOLOGICALLY COMPATIBLE TAMPON SPONGE

A biocompatible nontoxic sponge comprising a polymeric foam which forms the sponge structure and a pharmaceutically active surfactant, which may be a spermicide and which slowly releases during use. The sponge is blown in a polymer mold which when closed forms a convenient and completely sanitary package. Figure 9 illustrates a tampon sponge (32) with removal means (36).
