PURPOSE:To secure stable image density for a long period and to obtain an excellent image by nearly eliminating variation in the residual potential of a photoreceptor through the corona charging means which consists of a discharging electrode connected to an AC voltage source and a conductive shield connected to a DC voltage source. CONSTITUTION:An optical eraser 9 performs irradiation with such a quantity of light that variation in initial surface potential by a main corona charger 2 when a photosensitive drum 1 is used repeatedly is nearly equal to variation in residual potential after discharging, and a corona charger 11 charges the surface of the drum 1 uniformly. The corona charger 11 consists of the discharging electrode 14 connected to the AC voltage source 13 through a capacitor 12 and the conductive shield 16 connected to the DC voltage source 15, and consequently the charging potential of the drum 1 is nearly equal to a bias voltage value from the DC voltage source 15, so that variation in residual potential is eliminated to about 0V substantially. |
