1,022,831. Hospital beds. VICKERS Ltd. June 17, 1964 [June 17, 1963], No. 24114/63. Heading A4J. A hospital bed comprising two rigid parts 1, 18, which may be sealed together to form a closed chamber, capable of being pressurised to three atmospheres, and in which the upper part 18 has a transparent dome 19 and has inlet and exhaust pipes 52, 53 for a gas, e.g. oxygen. The bed is angularly adjustable relative to a cradle 3 upon which it is pivotally mounted, by a hydraulic jack connected between the cradle 3 and the lower part 1. The upper part 18 may be detachable from or hinged to the lower part 1. In the latter case it is spring-loaded towards an open position defined by arms 30. The two parts 1, 18 are sealed together by lugs 43, 44 which interengage when the bed is closed and are clamped together by a U-shaped locking strap 32. The strap 32, whose upper horizontal limb has castellations covering the lugs 43 in the unlocked position, is displaceable around the lower part by a screw and nut device operated by rotating a handle 39. When locked the castellations cover the lugs 44. A flashing light is incorporated which operates when the bed is being closed and the strap is in the locked position.
|
