PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of a blood sugar level depressing agent, easily, from an inexpensive raw material, by the liquid-phase oxidation of p-ethylbenzene-sulfoamide with O2-containing gas in the presence of a heavy metal compound catalyst and a bromine compound catalyst. CONSTITUTION:p-Ethylbenzenesulfoamide is oxidized with O2-containing gas in liquid phase in an organic solvent (preferably acetic acid, propionic acid, etc.) in the presence of a heavy metal compound catalyst (preferably those composed mainly of Co; the concentration of the catalyst in the reaction system is preferably 5X10<-3>-1X10<-1>mol/1 in view of economicity) and a bromine compound catalyst (e.g. HBR, BrCH2COOH, etc.; the amount of the catalyst is preferably 0.001-10mol of Br per 1mol of the heavy metal compound), to obtain the objective p-acetylbenzenesulfonamide. USE:Useful also as a raw material of photographic color coupler. |
