A vacuum cleaner 10 is connected to a suction mouth 14 by means of a suction hose 11 with a manoeuvring handle 12 and a tubular pipe 13. The manoeuvring handle has a button 15 or similar device for the adjustment of a variable resistance in the handle. Electrical conductors 16, 17 arranged on the hose 11 connect the resistance to a first winding (coil) 18 which surrounds the end of the hose which is connected to the vacuum cleaner. A second winding 32 on the vacuum cleaner surrounds the first winding 18 concentrically and is connected to an electrical control device 35 on the vacuum cleaner for an electric motor available for the latter.
