<p>Process for the production of pentose and hexose from a cellulosic material containing pentosans by an acid hydrolysis, in which the starting material is heated to a temperature of between 210 and 250oC for a period of between 5 and 90 seconds in the presence of a strong acid having a concentration of between 0.2 and 2.0% by weight. A high yield of both pentose and hexose is obtained by said single step process.</p> |
