In a method of concentrating sludge by centrifugation, wherein the sludge is washed and partly recirculated, a washing liquid as well as a recirculated liquid is conveyed at the same time but through separate means to the sludge discharge nozzles of the centrifuge. Washing liquid or recirculated liquid is supplied to the centrifuge rotor through the bore 4 of a rotary shaft or through an axial inlet 5 and passes from the chambers 6 or 7 through one or more pipes 8 or 9 which open adjacent the discharge nozzles 10. Alternatively the liquids may be conveyed to the nozzles by conical discs placed adjoining and parallel to the inner wall of the centrifuge, the disc or the centrifuge wall being grooved. The liquid to be separated is fed at 12. The process may be applied to the separation of starch from starch slush and fibres in a liquid suspension. |
