APPARATUS FOR DISCHARGING AND AERATING ASEPTIC SOLUTION

A removable cap to fit on the neck of a deformable container for sterile soln. and through which successive doses of soln. can be discharged. The vol. discharged at each dose is replaced by sterile air which is allowed to enter via a passage through the cap. The cap is in the shape of an inverted cup which fits over the top of the container neck. A discharge passage through the cap wall terminates in an outlet nozzle which contains a non-return valve which positively prevents ingress of atmospheric air. The valve is pref. of the ducks bill type with resilient lips which open when the container is pressurised by squeezing. An inlet passage through the cap wall is screened with an air filter of hydrophobic membrane which traps air-borne micro-organisms. The filter membrane is pref. protected by being located well inside the cap, air reaching the filter via the inlet passage. The non-return valve is pref. protected by being contained almost entirely within the outlet nozzle. The cap is to fit on the neck of a deformable container of sterile soln. partic. a soln. for cleaning and/or disinfecting contact lenses.
