The invention relates to a wall unit or shelving unit having a base and having compartments to receive electrical appliances, in particular media relay appliances or the like, in which the compartments are partitioned by means of compartment bottoms and side walls. In order to facilitate the guiding of the connection and junction cables when electrical appliances are placed in the compartments in a manner such as to be freely movable, the invention provides that, at least in the region of a front edge of the side walls assigned to the compartments, a receiving duct for electrical cables which extends as far as the base and is open towards the front is arranged or formed, that a horizontal receiving duct for electrical cables, likewise open towards the front, is attached or formed on the base and is connected to the vertical receiving ducts, and that the receiving ducts can be closed by means of removable masking strips or the like.
