PURPOSE:To accurately find the time interval between 1st and 2nd pulses by oscillating a light clock pulse train as a reference train and finding pulses having slight intervals with the reference pulses between the 1st and the 2nd light pulse trains. CONSTITUTION:The reference pulse train having accurate clock pulse intervals is generated by an atomic time oscillator 1 and a laser diode 2, reflected by a half-mirror 7 and a mirror 9, and made incident on cameras 5 and 6. A signal light pulse 3, on the other hand, is generated and reflected by a half-mirror 8, and reflected light from a distant body 4 is reflected by a mirror 10 to make pulses b1 and b2 incident on the cameras 5 and 6. The cameras 5 and 6 find the time differences Tb1 and Tb2 between a close reference pulse and the single light pulse. The number of reference pulses arranged at a interval of distance lbetween the camera 5 and reflection body 4 is denoted as (i). The time difference between the pulses b1 and b2 is Tm=i.T-Tb1+Tb2 and l=C.Tm/2(C= light velocity). consequently, the time intervals of pulses are accurately detected and this device is suitable as a range finder.
