In the case of the polarity of a circuit being reversed by means of reversing contactors, the necessary synchronous switching of the reversing contactors is ensured in that the armature movements are mechanically coupled to one another and, because of the different air gaps in the energised and unenergised contactor, switching of the contactor which is originally unenergised cannot take place until the contactor which was originally energised trips.
