PURPOSE:To increase damping force automatically when an automobile is steered by mounting a control rod with a means, which varies and adjusts the opening area of an oil path communicating the upper and lower chambers of a piston, into the piston rod of the shock absorber. CONSTITUTION:When the pressure side of the shock absorber 1 is operated, the working oil of a lower oil chamber C passes in the communicating path 11A of the piston 6 and flows into an upper oil chamber B while excessive oil corresponding to the introducing volume of the piston rod 7 passes in the communicating path 12A of a base valve 10 and flows out into a reservoir chamber A, and predetermined damping force is obtained by flow resistance generated in each communicating path 11A, 12A. In this case, a through-hole 13 is formed into the piston rod 7 and the control rod 14 is inserted, and a spool valve 17 is formed at the lower end of the rod 14. Orifices 16A, 16B shaped to the rod 7 are opened and closed through he spool valve 17 through the relative revolution of said both rods 7, 14, and the areas of each communicating path 11A, 12A are varied. |
