The diamines used are N-mono-(aminoalkanouyl) compounds of formula: H2N-(CxH2x)-CO-HN-R-NH2 (wherein x is 3 to 11, R is a branched or unbranched cycloaliphatic residue CnH2n-2 where n is 5 to 25). Up to 50% of other polyamine may also be used. Products are liquid and may be used in casting resins at room temperature. Some are thixotropic. Despite their low mol. wt., their vapour pressure is so low that epoxide resin/diamine mixtures can be degassed very rapidly by evacuation, without simultaneous loss of diamine. |
