A V-type light barrier exhibits a light transmitter (11), an adjacently arranged light receiver (12) and a retroreflector (21) mounted at a distance from the light transmitter (11) and light receiver (12). The light transmitter (11) and the light receiver (12) exhibit several adjacently located optical imaging elements (13a, 13b, 13c; 14a, 14b, 14c) with laterally offset optical axes (15a, 15b, 15c; 16a, 16b, 16c) in order to make the signal occurring at the photoreceiver (24) when the light barrier is not interrupted as independent as possible from the position of the retroreflector (21) along the centre axis (20) of the light barrier. <IMAGE>
