The system for multiple zone imaging of objects are applicable to planetary imaging from spacecraft and to terrain imaging from aircraft. They enable the generation of multiple zone images whose resolution elements carry information on the image details of the spatial structure of the corresp. section of terrain whereby the detail dimensions are smaller than those of the terrain sections. The method involves zone selection, real time integration, and video signal generation. The object image is converted into an object spectrum image which is generated in the form of a spatial frequency spectrum which carries information on the spatial object structure. The image is simultaneously produced of the electromagnetic spectrum from which is derived the video information about the spectral composition of the light reflected at the object. Monochrome or coloured images may be produced using linear summation or coding.
