<p>A unitary method and system for the continuous purification of a liquid medium containing solid particulate matter comprises: a conduit (13) for delivering a continuous stream of the liquid medium to a first separator (14) wherein particles of a diameter greater than 3 millimeters are removed; a pump (19) for pressurizing the liquid stream discharged from the first separation (14) in conduit (15) and delivering the pressurized stream in conduit (20) to a second separator (22) wherein particles of a diameter greater than 75 microns are removed; a flocculating unit (31) for receiving the liquid stream discharged from the second separator (22) in conduits (24, 27, and 30 respectively); a fine filter unit (35) for receiving the flocculated liquid stream discharged from the flocculating unit (31) in conduits (32 and 34 respectively) wherein particles in excess of 1 micron diameter become entrained in its filter medium (72); discharge conduits (36, 38, and 42 respectively) for delivering a clarified liquid medium from the fine filter unit (35); a chlorination unit (80) optionally connected to the clarified liquid discharge conduit (42) wherein bacterial and viral contaminants are destroyed; and a discharge conduit (84) for delivering a purified stream from the chlorination unit (80).</p> |
