PURPOSE:To facilitate the constitution of circuit provided with the forced ignition function preventing the circuit from breaking due to overvoltage by a method wherein the electrodes are lead out of both edges of cylindrical container provided with the non- linear resistance characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The container 17 comprises both cylindrical bodies 14, 15A, 15B and the arrester 14 is provided with terminals 16A, 16B while terminals 11, 12 and terminals 16A, 16B are independent from each other. The high withstand voltage thyristor capacitates to install the current detector 6 between terminals 12 and 16 while the thermal and mechanical breakdown of said arrester due to continuous load current may be prevented because the thyristor is conducted by the effect of forced ignition even if the arrester 14 connected in parallel is supplied with the load current since one of the serial thyristors are not supplied with the gate signals preventing the arrester from arcing. On the other hand, all the arresters are perfectly protected from the externally incoming surge because all the arresters are connected in series and perfectly in parallel with the serial thyristor group in case the thyristors are out of switching operation. The potendifference between terminals 11 and 11A as well as 12 and 16B of the cylindrical bodies 15A and 15B being negligible, the insulator between them may be thin with the least insulating property. |
