PURPOSE:To obtain a polarization film high in durability and polarization degree, and regulable in tone, by allowing a hydrophilic polymer film to form polyene, and a dichromatic dye to be adsorbed and oriented to render polarizing elements consisting both of polyene and dicromatic dye present. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic polymer film capable of forming polyene is allowed to form polyene by heat treatment, e.g. in the presence of a dehydration catalyst, and a dichromatic dye is adsorbed to it and oriented to obtain a polarization film. PVA films, saponified ethylenevinyl acetatecopolymer films, and partially formalized PVA films are used for said polymer film, thus permitting polarization elements consisting of polyene and a dichromatic dye to coexist, so 2 conditions of high durability and high polarization degree to be satisfied, and tone to be freely controlled. |
