A rudder for watercraft, particularly propeller-driven craft, has a flexible rudder plate which is elastically stretchable because the rudder plate is formed by a flexible plate of an elastically stretchable material which is of an elasticity that permits a deflection of the plate by the action of the water flowing past it, and/or because the rudder plate has its ends, which follow upon each other in the direction of propulsion of the craft, yieldably urged in a direction away from each other. The flexible plate is made of an elastomer such as rubber or rubber-like plastic and may be perforated, leaving flexible flaps in the perforations. |
