PURPOSE:To detect the brightness of an object at high accuracy and in a short time by reading picture element information from picture elements selected by a photometric picture element selector prior to reading of the picture element information from the whole picture elements. CONSTITUTION:Vertical shift registers VS1-VS8 and a horizontal shift register HS are provided in photoelectric conversion element sections A1-A8, B1-B8... H1-H8. Element sections A1, A8; B2, B7...H1, H8 selected symmetrically and diagonally to the center of image pickup scene are provided as photometric elements. When, for instance, the picture element information of the whole picture elements of 500X500 area type solid image pickup elements are read at 100kHz frequency, it takes 500X500X10musec=2.5sec. While by this selection, it takes 500X2X10musec=10 millisecond. By this way, the object information corresponding to the whole picture can be obtained in a short time. |
