The machine has a rotary thread locking mechanism and a light, curved blade is moved to-and-fro between this and the material feed slider so that both the sewing thread and the locking thread are sheared simultaneously. The knife is mounted on a carrier pivoted below the locking head and actuated at right angles to the above shaft by an electromagnet, or a pneumatic cylinder into the cutting position, the cutting stroke being produced by an eccentric on the locking head shaft. Increased machine productivity is achieved.
