PURPOSE:To provide a sensor with excellent electromotive force response even in molten steel that contains a deoxidizer by covering the surface of an oxygen sensor with carbon or metal carbide. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an oxygen senser constituted with a solid electrolyte of zirconia type oxide is covered by carbon or metal carbide. An example of the method of covering with carbon or metal carbide is: a powder or carbon or metal carbide is dispersed in water, organic solvent or other liquids, and the senser surface is immersed in this dispersion soluton or the latter is sprayed on the former, and after the solution has dried, the covering is tightly attached by turning if needed. The carbon and metal carbide used for covering are, for example, amorphous carbon powder, coke powder, graphite powder, etc. and silicon carbide, boron carbide, titanium carbide, etc. The oxygen sensor thus constituted can be used as an oxygen concentration measurement senser is ordinnary molten steel as well as in molten steel that contains a deoxidizer. |
