The sealing tape (1) for insertion into the joint gap formed between two metal sheets which are to be joined to one another by spot-welding has recesses which are arranged in rows in the longitudinal direction of the tape with webs (3) between them and which are closed towards the edge of the tape by a tape strip (4) free of recesses. Gases or vapours generated by thermal decomposition of the tape material during spot-welding remain intercepted in the recesses (2) and cannot penetrate to the outside.
