In a printer having an automatic sheet feeder and adjuster, a sheet is automatically wound onto a cylinder. A device for winding a sheet has a control counter for format displacement which can be adjusted in advance to a previously selected value. In a printer having a format displacement position sensor, the output signal of the sensor is put out of action (10) as long as the automatic sheet feeder and adjuster is operating.
