The transmission has a casing which comprises a transmission box and a transmission cover closing the latter on one side, the positioning of which relative to one another for accurate fitting is ensured by interacting fitting devices. A first transmission shaft projects perpendicularly from the cover, on which it is centred, into the transmission box. A second transmission shaft, for which a bearing is provided on the cover side of the casing, interacts directly with the first shaft, via a gear pair. The invention achieves accurately aligned mounting of the transmission shaft and a simplified embodiment of the fitting devices for ensuring the accurate positioning of the cover relative to the box by virtue of the fact that the bearing is arranged on the box and the fitting devices, interacting between the box and the cover, of surfaces of revolution concentric to one of the two shafts are expediently formed, on the bearing side, by a surface involved functionally in the formation of the bearing, namely, for example, part of the outer surface of a bearing ring.
