<p>A planetary gear system comprises a primary shaft, a propeller shaft, a number of intermediate shafts, a planet support on at least one of the shafts, and at least two planet wheel journals on the planet support. At least two planet wheel journals each are provided with a planet friction wheel contacting a surrounding friction ring and a friction sun wheel provided on an adjacent shaft. At least one of the planet wheel journals is provided with a planet gear wheel, which co-operates with a surrounding ring gear, and a sun gear provided on the adjacent shaft. The intermediate shafts do not have to be provided with bearing and centering means since these functions can be accomplished by the elements of the gear system. Thus the axial length of the gear system can be minimized.</p> |
